The Prophet (PBUH) said:” Whoever suffers an injury and forgives (the one responsible) Allah will raise his status to a higher degree and remove one of his sins” (Al Trimidhi)
We all battle with difficulties daily whether they are inflicted by others or whether we inflict it upon ourselves we need to face them with tolerance.
It is in our natural human nature that many of us find it quite hard to forgive people who have wronged us. I can say from experience that I have battled with this. When someone wronged me I found it very difficult to let go and to forgive every fibre in my being lost control and all I could think of what I could do to get revenge. This was mentally and physically draining because it diminishes your health and consumes your entire being and eventually you find yourself on a dark path and nothing in your life seems meaningful and productivity just takes a back seat. Now I can tell you this is truly a battle we all face and we need to take hold of ourselves and fight the demon within ourselves.
Forgiveness. Well it is easier said than done, but when you finally master the art of forgiving and I don’t mean just pretending to forgive and then still planning your revenge secretly but sincerely forgiving those who have hurt you. The feeling of sincerely forgiving changes your whole being, physically and mentally. Sometimes two people have wronged one another but only one person forgives whether you are at fault or not you should still try to forgive it will say a lot about your character and it will also free your heart and mind from unnecessary stress. If that person does not want to forgive you then leave them it is clear that they are immature and unable to let go of their demons.
If you truly live by the morals of the Quran then you will find it easy to forgive. If you follow the Sunnah of our Nabi (SAW) then you will find it easier to forgive and if you truly believe that we are all tried and tested in this world and that everything we do even if we make mistakes big or small. Everything is by the command of Allah.
Every day we make mistakes. Every day we sin but yet every single day we ask Allah (SWT) for forgiveness. As much as we want Allah to forgive us we should forgive others. If Allah (SWT), Most Merciful, Most Forgiving can forgive us when our sins are as much as the foam of the oceans why then can we not forgive those who have wronged us. Do we hold our destiny in our own hands? Do we hold someone else’s destiny in our hands? Do we have the right to make someone suffer? If you say yes to these questions then correct yourselves immediately because imagine if Allah punished us immediately when we sinned. Where would we be now?
Whether you have hurt someone intentionally or unintentionally seek forgiveness daily from Allah (SWT) and ask Him to soften your heart so that you may be able to forgive those who have hurt you.
Forgive. Free you heart. Follow the Quran and remember we are all human we all make mistakes.
May Allah guide us and protect us all and as much as we need him to have mercy on us. We should have mercy on his creation.
