Character is who you are and your reputation is what others think of you.

Sometimes we are so consumed with what others think of us that we change ourselves and our character to please them. Have you ever thought, that no matter what we do Allah already knows the condition in our hearts and he knows our intentions. He knows everything we do and will do.

“Allah will never change the condition of the people unless they change what is within themselves”

Your character is Who You Are. Your good deeds and your bad deeds. If you truly want to change then do it solely with the intention of pleasing Allah.

Reputation is what others think of you. How many times have people judged you and accused you even though you may seem good or may seem bad. Always remember this is their view, not Allah’s view of you. When you realize your true purpose and you discover who you really are then what others think will not matter at all.

There are numerous examples from the stories of the Prophets that will shed light on this, that will prove to you that what truly matters is character.

One perfect example is the story of Ayesha(ra) Nabi (SAW) wife. She was accused of committing a horrible sin. But because of her character, her patience and her Dua’s, Allah helped her and revealed the truth.

Use these stories as a reminder to yourself that Allah will come to your AID. If people conspire against you to harm you only Allah can help you.

This is a reminder first and foremost to myself.

Strive to better your character for the sake of Allah. Character plays a major part in our daily lives. Look at our Beloved Nabi (SAW), his character and his ways were perfect. Use the stories of the Prophets, The Sahaba’s and The Sahabiyat and you will never go wrong.

May Allah guide us and may we strive to better our characters for the sake of Him Alone.
